Writer Sara Eckel knows that well. The answer, she always stresses, is not clear cut. You just are. It took Eckel quite a bit of time to adopt this philosophy herself. It was only when she began studying Buddhism and yoga in the early s that she began figuring out how to be content in a society that often stresses coupledom to the extreme. Through her yoga instructors, she also began learning a new way to think about pain and suffering. Eckel began exploring those concepts more when she started writing her book and considering how women in particular are socialized to think about the single experience. In her book and her advice columns, Eckel stresses that admitting to yourself that there are negative aspects of being single is not the same as admitting defeat or giving in to hopelessness.

For people who are in love, or who have their very best friend living miles away, it can feel like a little piece is missing from their lives. From time immemorial, man has been preoccupied with the pursuit of happiness in life, from the cradle to the grave. He works and struggles very hard to attain happiness, very often without knowing exactly what happiness means because of his ignorance of the nature of life. Although all religions provide advice and guidelines for their adherents to practice in order to attain happiness in life, more often than not, these advices and guidelines are ignored owing to man’s craving, hatred and illusion.
Many people who experienced frustrations and sufferings hope and pray to find happiness for present life and here after; others, though enjoying a large measure of happiness on earth, are still not contented and crave for eternal bliss in heaven after leaving this world. For the ordinary man, as for the child, it is difficult to make a distinction between happiness and pleasure. To him, that which gives pleasure give happiness, and to be happy is to experience pleasure.
Very often, we consider childhood days to be a period of happiness.

In regards to romantic relationships , Buddhism has very liberal views. This idea is not referring to worldly objects in the physical sense, but in a spiritual sense. Instead, one must accept a partner for who they are unconditionally.
